6.8mm Acoustic Heritage Sealed Units
Engineered for period townhouses, historic urban offices, and conservation properties situated near busy roads, bus corridors, and railways. Pairing a 6.8mm acoustic laminated pane with a 4mm Low-E inner pane.
Overcoming the Heritage Acoustic Challenge
Historic single-glazed windows are notorious for transmitting street noise. Traditional timber sash frames frequently cannot accommodate modern 28mm acoustic units without destroying original glazing rebates and counterweight balance.
By utilising a specialised 6.8mm acoustic laminated pane (two layers of glass bonded with a sound-dampening acoustic PVB interlayer), substantial noise disruption can be mitigated while retaining a slim, rebate-friendly profile.
- 4mm Cavity: 4mm Low-E + 4mm cavity + 6.8mm Acoustic = 14.8mm nominal overall. With the supplied ±1mm guideline, this gives 13.8–15.8mm.
- 6mm Cavity: 4mm Low-E + 6mm cavity + 6.8mm Acoustic = 16.8mm nominal overall. With the supplied ±1mm guideline, this gives 15.8–17.8mm.
No sound-reduction figure (Rw/dB) is universally assumed here without project-specific supplier testing. Frame draught-proofing (sealing air leakage around sash perimeters) is equally vital to achieving expected real-world acoustic performance.
